So I figure it must be right about time for another story of the madness that is our lives. Quite a few times in our past our friends have laughed at our misfortune and said ‘it can only happen to you.’ Most of the time it felt like they were right. Those of you who have been with me since the beginning will have seen evidence of that. Any newbies may I suggest you check out the two Safari posts from the early days. I won’t plot spoil for you. Trust me it fell into that scenario.
My husband is fond of saying that he has plenty of luck just a lot of it is bad. I wonder is he referring to me too? I have to say I fear he maybe right: not about me. At least I don’t think so. Let me tell you some stories and let you decide. My husband was not employed when we met, he had been let go because he had been off unable to work due to his back. He had an old car. Wasn’t worth much but he looked after it. He went to his local to meet a friend to find out about a possible job. Parked up, ordered his beer then his mate says; your car has just gone out the car park. He thought it was a wind up but it wasn’t. Lucky for him there were witnesses. He called me at work to let me know. A little while later it was used as the getaway car to rob the local post office! I kid you not.
It was lucky for him he had stayed in the pub so he had an alibi. The police had us under surveillance for a while after. The robbers swag had included stamps and tax discs. For me it was unnerving as I had not long moved in and to have strange men sat outside when I was home alone didn’t sit well with me. Deciding to be proactive and a little stroppy I called the local police station. I mentioned that there was a car outside watching; they were not being subtle about it by any means. The police assured me it wasn’t them. I didn’t believe them. Oh well I said I may as well take them down a cuppa. By the time I boiled the kettle they were gone. Never to be seen again.
The car was recovered. They asked if we wanted it back. I know my husband loved that car but he said no. Too many people had seen it. We didn’t want anymore problems with people thinking we had something to do with it. We put a claim in via the insurance and after the excess he got a whopping fifty pounds. I told you it wasn’t worth much but even I was expecting a little more than that. I mean that isn’t going to go far towards replacing it! As hubby said , it wouldn’t even buy us a tandem!

A couple of years later we decided to set up a business we went the full nine yards and got a brand new truck. The first time in his life hubby had a vehicle that was new. It was his pride and joy. He even drove it up to show his family who live a couple of hours away. That was not a comfortable journey. It was a works vehicle that was sure. He never abused it by overloading it or speeding. Wait for it…
He calls me at work. In those days I instantly went oh no what’s happened. He would only call if it was really important. You won’t believe what has just happened. Probably not but tell me anyway. I was parking up at the job and the back axle fell off. The brackets had sheered. I thank our lucky stars he wasn’t fully loaded, motoring up the road as it could have ended so badly. That shouldn’t happen to a new truck. We’ll get it repaired under warranty….. the warranty that ran out two days prior! They were not interested.
If you sniggered its ok. We can laugh about it now. Well if you don’t laugh you cry. Only us. You couldn’t make it up but it keeps us on our toes. Ex
