If only I could cartwheel

Wow, this feels strange. I have not written a blog post in quite a while all because I had got so far ahead of myself. Lets hope I am not too out of practice. So what has got me sat at the laptop this evening? A couple of things actually. I have two books at the edit stage so there is no pressing items to be written although I have another couple of items on the go. However I wanted to update you on where we were at with life in general.

We both had a bad few days. Really bad, to the point we weren’t really talking. Why? Hubby was in a lot of pain and really down. I wasn’t feeling too great. I will hold my hands up I didn’t handle it too well but as it is with relationships you tend to snap at the one who is closest to you. In some ways not talking for a day may have been a good thing. Seeing my husband so flat made me feel like I was failing but I didn’t have the oomph to do anything. I didn’t want to lay that on him.

There was no option that was clear and obvious to me. It felt like I had been down every road and they all lead to nowhere. It was frustrating and disheartening. Honestly it felt like every medical professional had turned their backs on us. The appointments we do have are weeks if not months off. Realistically it was just us being left to get on with it.

We had a GP appointment; not sure what it was for. Test results? There are quite a lot of those pending. Usually I don’t go but it was worth a try. Oh my. A GP that was actually listening. Husband had been called in about a referral a consultant had asked for and the doctor wanted to know how we felt about it. Short discussion and it was put on hold until the next round of blood tests had been carried out as he would add another couple of tests to that.

Husband asked about his bone scan results. All normal. Well that was a first. My husband: normal! We will take that. That left the door open to ask for another course of steroids. I must admit I wasn’t hopeful but it couldn’t hurt to try. Have you spoken to your Parkinsons nurse about any of this the Doctor asks. Haven’t had an appointment yet, that is next month. I had to ask for it. What about the consultant? First appointment is still months off.

He frowns and looks at the notes from the last rheumatology appointment. What is happening with this situation. Nothing. What do you mean nothing, they said within three months? We haven’t heard anything since our last appointment apart from a questionnaire asking if we wanted to remain on the waiting list. Well we can’t leave you like this. I’ll give you another course of steroids.

I left that appointment buzzing. If I could have done cartwheels I think I would have. The two old ladies sat outside the café having coffee might of had a good laugh at my expense if I had tried. So over the next couple of month I should get my old husband back again. This time I am making the most of it. We will go out and stuff the chores. I am going to be booking a weekend away. Maybe two.

So where did we go from there? Why to the pub of course. Well we pass it on the way home. The first time we had been out in weeks. Both of us felt like a weight had been lifted. Its not a long term fix but it gives us a little breathing space. What is most obvious is how my husband is happier. As I am sat here typing he is laughing and joking like he hasn’t for weeks. I’ll take that. Hopefully this will see us through to the next consultation. Fingers crossed that will give us answers for a more permanent solution. Until then….. lets live a little while we can. Ex
