Any crafty person will tell you their head is constantly full of ideas. Things they want to try. Projects that they want to complete. New crafts. New products. We are tormented by it. Then we have the work in progress pile that never seems to be cleared. In our defence some of that pile is caused by orders coming in when we are mid project. Some one asking us to make them something for a special occasion. Well it would be rude to say no wouldn’t it?
I will hold my hands up. Some of my pile is caused by my motivation taking a leave of absence. When you look at it and the instant reaction is nah, don’t want to play. There is no point forcing it. You work away at something when you heart isn’t in it and I promise the result will either end up in the bin as you hate it, get unpicked if possible and you will need to start again or it gets thrown across the room as it goes wrong. No point. Just leave it there. It will get done……one day.
My main craft is knitting so in the summer months if the weather gets too warm I am forced to take a break. Squeaky needles are a massive no go for me. Plus it upsets the tension of the knitting. Those of you who knit will understand that. Sometimes that enforced break comes when I am in the middle of a burst of inspiration especially when I realise how quickly the year is going and I need to restock for the winter sales.

Now I have a new passion I want to follow and mark off my to do list, my inspiration has returned. I have been busy working away. Now don’t get me wrong there are days I look at my laptop and I just don’t have the desire to type. Some of that, I am sure, is due to the hours I spend in front of a PC for the day job. Needs must unfortunately.
When that motivation hits I have to go with it. I have notes, small sections jotted down. I have draft blog posts to keep me going for here for a couple of months. Some already scheduled others I am not happy enough to hit publish just yet. As always striving for better.
This in itself has given me issues. My bigger writing project is going well. I have a new found respect for people that can do this for a living. How on Earth Stephen King has turned out so many books is beyond me. Hats off to that man. In my defence I have a day job: sorry I may have mentioned that before. I searched for the optimum words required for a book. Yeah that seems achievable. It is harder than you think. I am a quarter of the way there and at this moment that goal seems like a huge hill to climb.
Now this is where the crafter curse has kicked in. I gave myself four options when I started my bigger project. This was to see what one grew legs and took off, I wanted it to be natural and not forced. It was the one I least expected. The one I had nearly shredded before I started. After finishing one section recently I suddenly had the urge to see if I could give that one its own legs. In my head it has grown I just need to get it from the grey cells to the keyboard. When I am mid-flow something else needs my attention. Chores, phone calls, people. Would you think it rude of me if I hung a sign around my neck – do not disturb. Creating in progress.
An image just popped in my head. Multitasking me. Dictaphone in hand whilst I travel to work, wash up or file paperwork in the office, all in a desire to get my project done. Grab that inspiration and get it down so I don’t lose the thread. Would it be considered rude if I shut myself away because right now the force is strong! Sorry that will be lost on some and make others groan. So if I go missing, do not automatically fear the worse. It is more likely I am lost in my project. Feel free to reach out if you want to make sure. Ex
